Veiled Freedom
a film by Andrea Loetscher

Women who are wearing the headscarf in public are confronted with a lot of prejudices. The scarf is seen as a symbol of women's oppression or of fundamentalism. "Veiled Freedom" shows, that many women wear the scarf to be recognized as muslim women - or they don't wear the scarf in order not to stand out in public. Seen within it's historic context the qur'anic dress code can be interpreted in both ways. "Veiled Freedom" wants to encourage to think about ones own prejudices. The film shows that it is important for every muslim woman to have the freedom to choose for herself if she want's to wear a scarf in public or not.
